Round 1: Sign-ups for creators

Sign-ups for Round 1 are now CLOSED.

[[Creator Sign-Up Form]]

Please note:
  • Sign-ups will be open through April 30. Remember, you may participate even if you do not sign up (more details here); sign-ups are for folks who want to make use of support structure, be considered for complementary fanwork, and/or appreciate the accountability of sign-ups.
  • You are not required to be matched with a beta or cheerleading.
  • You are only required to choose a fandom now if you would like to be matched with a fandom-specific beta or cheerleader.
  • If you wish to create original content, you must indicate it in your sign-up, particularly if you're interested in being matched with a beta or cheerleader.
  • If you are a mixed media/mixed category participant that has contacted us and been approved, please list the percentages you were sent under the "category" section.
  • For co-creating teams: only one person needs to submit the initial sign-up, but every other person participating in the co-creation must also comment to it confirming their participation.
  • Be sure that you have read the Challenge Overview and Rules & Guidelines for Creators before signing up.
  • Other links that may be of interest: prompts for creators, seeking a co-creator post and author permission for podficcers.

Also, feel free to cheer each other on in the comments! Just keep in mind that sign-ups will be screened after the sign-up period ends.

#2 sounds so very awesome! And I have always wondered what does it mean to be non-heteronormative in the Black Jewels universe just because of the way the Blood are "called?" to each other.

Yeah, the last few books in the series have really been raising these questions in my mind. "Wait, if Rainier's gay, how does that work in this world exactly?"

Never mind how that would be work for trans folk!

Word. And Karla! I always wanted her to explain more. *so very curious*

Ever since the book of novellas, I'm pretty convinced Karla is canonically some flavor of queer (either lesbian or asexual), but Bishop doesn't really know what to do with that. (Although, to be fair, there's a lot about her world Bishop doesn't really seem to know what to do with.) She makes a brief cameo in the latest book, but that's about it.

I need to go reread that since I thought that it was pretty obvious that Karla was meant to be a lesbian earlier in the series. huh

In my head canon, I consider Karla to be a lesbian but I think an argument can be made for her being asexual. I definitely don't parse her as being straight.

Dangerous ladies actually being dangerous
Oh, this. Plus, Surreal and Karla on adventures? Be still my heart!

Sometimes I wish I'd never read Surreal's book, in which she was totally and utterly defanged.

Oh, tragic :( I really loved her in the trilogy. It's weird, because BJT is one of those universes where I am really fascinated by the idea of it, but the way it's executed can be more than a little... *gestures inarticulately*

I think a lot of people who are fans of the books and continue to read them feel the same way. I'd be very hard-pressed to call them quality these days but like so many id-driven fantasies, there's so much good about them to go hand in hand with the bad.

I haven't yet read her book and now I'm incredibly disappointed. I wanted more kickass Surreal!

She kind of gets overshadowed by Lucivar in that book. I get that Bishop really loves her boys, Daemon and Lucivar, but sometimes that love can really unbalance some things. Like story narratives.
